The tibetan bookcover
|
"Tibet
is always on my mind, I have been a Tibetan monk, in another lifetime,
but in this life, I have to go back to Tibet. I was already in Nepal,
where I got the most beautiful "TIBETAN BOOKCOVER"existing
on earth, told to me by the director of the "volksmuseum"
in Leiden. It once belonged to the famous "SWAYAMBUNATH" temple
in Katmandue, written on it in very old SANSCRIT is a whole story.
It once covered one of the holiest Tibetan scriptures. A bookcover was made by very famous sculpturors, ordered by the King, who paid for it in gold and emerald and /or ruby, or other stones, to be made in wood, to cover the perkament holy scriptures, so they stayed straight. I have the only existing one on which, among other things, the above is written. I have been told by a monk, that by buying, this bookcover in 1976 in Katmandu, I saved it from being burned to cook with it, because people had nothing to cook with, so they burned every piece of material they could lay their hands on. So I think this incredible holy piece, was the first one I was the guardian of." |
